Assistant International Student & Scholar Advisor

About the Opportunity

Under the direct supervision of an OGS Assistant Director, the Assistant International Student and Scholar Advisor will provide customer service and operational support in the Office of Global Services (OGS). They will serve as the frontline of contact for students, scholars and others who seek the services of the OGS. The person in this role will provide front desk coverage, answer phone calls, create schedules for advising appointments, as well as screen and process immigration-based inquiries. This role will also be responsible for routing workflow to the appropriate OGS staff.

The Asst. ISS advisor will complete the initial screening and review of applications for all services and benefits requested by international students on F and J visas. The incumbent will serve as a Designated School Official/Alternate Responsible Officer (DSO/ARO); training will be provided as needed. They will aid in data entry into the OGS batching system and the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

The Assistant Advisor will supervise student workers at the front desk. Additionally, they will mentor and help train the junior members of the support staff and temporary employees who assist with processing tasks.

As needed, the assistant advisor will support all other OGS events, such as Orientations, OGS Student Sponsored Programs, etc.

Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years professional work experience. Some knowledge of or training in international student advising (F-1 and J-1 visa classifications) plus a strong customer service background is preferred. Must be detail-oriented, have excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task in a demanding work environment. Should possess thorough knowledge of office procedures, good judgment, discretion, and patience. Familiar with and comfortable working with computer database systems and PC-based network environment.

US citizenship or lawful permanent residency are required in order to be a DSO/ARO.
