About the Opportunity:
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Customer Service, the Assistant International Student and Scholar Advisor will provide customer service and operational support in the Office of Global Services (OGS). He/She will serve as the frontline of contact for students, scholars and others who seek the services of the OGS. The person in this role will provide front desk coverage, answer phone calls, create schedules for advising appointments, as well as screen and process immigration-based inquiries.

Responsibilities:
This role will also be responsible for routing work flow to the appropriate OGS staff. This position will complete the initial screening and review of applications for all benefits requested by international students, including but not limited to, initial I-20 requests and off campus work authorization. In other circumstances, this role will process fully certain I-20 requests, such as program extensions, change of major, change in funding, study abroad, adding/terminating dependents, and travel endorsements, as well as transfer out requests and more. The person will serve as a DSO; training will be provided as needed. Additionally, the assistant advisor will work closely with University Co-op Coordinators and SEVIS Contacts to ensure Student applications are complete and processed in a timely manner. Utilizing both department and University wide systems he/she will help to determine if students are maintaining their status and eligible for the benefits they are applying for. This position will aid in data entry into the OGS batching system. The Assistant Advisor will act as a supervisor for student workers at the front desk. Additionally, s/he will mentor and help training the junior members of the supports staff and temporary employees who assist with processing tasks. As needed, the assistant advisor will support all other OGS activities, including Travel Signature Sessions, Orientations, and OGS Student Sponsored Programs.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years professional work experience. Some knowledge of or training in international student advising (F-1 and J-1 visa classifications) plus a strong customer service background is preferred. Must be detail-oriented, have excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task in a demanding work environment. He/She should possess thorough knowledge of office procedures, good judgment, discretion, and patience. Familiar with and comfortable working with computer database systems and PC-based network environment.
