Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 2 for the Northern Nevada International Center (NNIC) with Extended Studies. ***This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. This position will lead the successful implementation of the Refugee Youth Mentor Program and the School Impact Program based on Federal and guidelines, gain and/or maintain a working knowledge of vulnerable youth advocacy, state and federal regulations regarding the protection of youth, assist children in need of basic success services, communicate and document any interactions in case files, work with families to ensure success of their children, establish new and foster existing relationships with partners in Washoe County School District (WCSD) and the community, recruit and seek volunteers that can serve students safely and according to federal PSEA regulations, coordinate special projects and other efforts for youth and family events. We are looking for an individual with the ability to facilitate intercultural communication and to create an environment where differences are respected; exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact in dealing with the public and staff; handle confidential information with professionalism; attention to detail and adherence to deadlines; plan and organize work; follow tasks through to completion; effective interpersonal skills. The Administrative Assistant 2 will recruit mentors, provide orientations and workshops for program participants and training for volunteer mentors; expand the scope of supportive services for refugees in Northern Nevada by recruiting, assessing, and matching participants with volunteer mentors; develop data collection and analysis skills by utilizing a program database and using findings to inform program improvements; evaluate program sustainability and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

A valid Class C Nevada driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

This position requires driving a 12-15 person passenger van.

Schedule

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
